Flu Season (A guide for parents)

Flu emoji

Attention Parents and Guardians,

As you may be aware, our State is in the "Red" zone this flu season.

What this means is that SC is having an increased number of people infected with the flu virus.

Williston School District 29 takes the health of our students and faculty very seriously and our goal is to decrease the number of people affected with the flu.

But we need your help and cooperation to do so.

Here are some tips published by the Centers For Disease Control to help prevent the spread of the flu:

Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.

If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone for 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.)

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

Wash your hands often with soap and water.

If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.

Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu.

It is important that you have your child treated by his/her Doctor if he/she has the following symptoms:

The symptoms of flu can include:

Fever (although not everyone with flu has a fever) Cough

Sore throat

Runny or stuffy nose

Body aches

Sometimes diarrhea and vomiting
