Mrs. Bilyeu-  A native of Atlanta, GA., has a BA in Psychology and Social Work from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama.  She also has a MEd in Counseling from USC.  She's married to Jay Bilyeu, DOE Nuclear Engineer, and has 2 adult sons.  She has previously worked as an Emergency Assistance Caseworker, Foster Family Caseworker, Pre-School Teacher, Special Education Private school Administrator, and has worked here at WEMS for 9 years. 

The purpose of the Guidance Program at WEMS is to help each individual student achieve his/her highest growth potential, mentally, emotionally, and socially.  Students learn to solve their own problems, develop social skills and values that lead to success in the adult world. 

The following programs and services are coordinated through the Guidance Office: 

  • 6th Grade classroom guidance 
    • Career Awareness 
  • 7th Grade classroom guidance
  • 8th Grade classroom guidance 
    • College Pays/Career Awareness 
    • Goal Setting/Career Awareness 
  • Small Group Counseling- topics based on need 
  • Individual Counseling 
  • Consultation with parents, teachers, and special education staff
  • Parenting information in the school's monthly newsletter and on request 
  • Consultation, Coordination, and Collaboration with community counseling and mental health services
  • Red Ribbon Week 
  • Administration of the SC Junior Scholar Program for 8th grade
  • Coordination of the Duke Talent Identification
  • Coordination of the state mandated testing: PACT
  • Registration for summer programs such as Upward Bound, JTPA, etc.  
  • Monthly Awards - Most Improved, Outstanding Acheivement, and Golden Rule
