My name is Betsy Hooks Portune and I am the TAG instructor for Williston District 29. I currently live in Lexington, SC with my husband, Kris. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor's degree in Music with a minor in Italian and a cognate in Education. After graduating, I attended the Graduate School at the University of South Carolina where I earned a Master's degree in Elementary Education. In the last 5 years, I've received my Masters+30 in Gifted Education, earned my Teacher Leadership endorsement, and will be pursuing a doctoral degree in the future.
Here are a few things that I am very passionate about: I love to read, learn new vocabulary, and use correct grammar. I am a self-proclaimed fitness fanatic, mellifluous music maverick, and piquant pancake pioneer. I love to travel, spend time with my loved ones, and laugh.
Being a teacher has made my life a non-stop, whirlwind process of learning new things everywhere I go. I pride myself on being a 'life-long learner' and I hope to instill that in each person (whether it be a student, parent, or another teacher) I encounter. There are countless teachable moments in life and I intend on living my life in a way that fosters my curiosity, love of words, and general zest for life-long learning.
What is TAG?
TAG stands for talented and gifted. TAG is a program that provides gifted-identified students with full-day advanced, enriched, accelerated educational experiences to meet the unique and specialized instructional, social, and emotional needs of gifted learners. Here, we celebrate our differences as according to the ways we learn, how we tackle classroom curriculum, and the ways we collaborate and cooperate with each other in an enriched, educational environment.
