Makeup Kit Letter:
Dear parent/guardian of ________________________________________,
I am very pleased to have your son/daughter in my drama class. This semester we will explore not only acting, voicing, and movement, but other fields involved in theater as well such as drama history, production, and set design. The month of October will be used to study theatrical makeup where we will learn how to create special effects. This requires that your child purchase a makeup kit and a color wheel. These are very personal items which will belong to the student and he/she will be able to take the kit home at the end of the unit. The total cost to you will be $75. This price includes S&H.
We will be purchasing a kit from the Ben Nye company and these come in a variety of skin tones. The cost is $55 for the kit. All students will need to purchase a color wheel regardless of whether they purchase a new kit or a used kit. The wheel is $18. Kits that are kept clean and in good condition may be resold to another student next year. I also have many students make money during the Halloween season doing special effects so it is possible to recoup some of your expenditure.
I know that at this time of the year finances are strained due to shopping for school clothes and school supplies, etc., so there are a few options we can explore. In the past I made up kits from leftover supplies used by previous students, but due to age of these supplies and concerns over their personal hygiene I have had to dispose of the old supplies. This means that I can no longer create a kit from old supplies, so your student will have to purchase either a new kit or a “gently used” kit from a previous student. I would suggest a price of $20-$25 dollars for these but whatever agreement you make is up to you. I can provide a list of students who may still have their kits but you want to be sure your used kit is from someone your child would be comfortable purchasing from. I can provide a list of names but I prefer that you handle the transaction yourself.
All monies will be due September 11. This will give me time to place and receive the order so we may begin the unit in October. I prefer your child bring a check or money order made out to Williston-Elko High School (write “makeup kit” in the corner); I prefer you not send cash. This assures that both you and I have records of monies paid and received. I will write a receipt for the check or money order when I receive it. Please mark which option you plan to use. If you need to send a postdated check, please mark that option below and include the date for me to deposit your check. All students will purchase a color wheel for $18. If you have any questions please call 803-266-3110 to arrange a time to speak with me.
o My child will purchase a new kit for $55 and a color wheel for $18 plus $2 for S&H. Total = $75.
o My child will purchase a used kit from a previous student and I will handle the transaction. I will pay $18 (plus $2 S&H) only for the color wheel. Total = $20.
o I will send a postdated check. Please do not deposit the check until _________________.
o I want to purchase a kit but these options do not work for me at present. I would like to talk with you personally to make other arrangements.
