Course Description: The curriculum for this course aligns with the South Carolina College and Career Readiness Standards for Mathematics which may be viewed on the South Carolina Department of Education website. ed.sc.gov/

 

The ACPS curriculum consists of intentionally aligned components—learning outcomes, assessments, learning experiences, content, and instructional strategies—organized into sequenced units to ensure students achieve mastery of grade-level or course-specific standards in pursuit of college and career readiness.

 

Students will be proficient applying the concepts of all four operations with rational numbers to solve real-world and mathematical problems. The following Overarching Concepts are an essential component to all units of instruction in 7th Grade Math:

  • Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
  • Reason both contextually and abstractly.
  • Use critical thinking skills to justify mathematical reasoning and critique the reasoning of others.
  • Connect mathematical ideas and real-world situations through modeling.
  • Use a variety of mathematical tools effectively and strategically.
  • Communicate mathematically and approach mathematical situations with precision.
  • Identify and utilize structure and patterns.
 
 
 

The 7th Grade Mathematics Course delivers a viable curriculum and prepares students for their 8th Grade Mathematics Course. This course is designed to deepen and extend the student’s understanding of rational numbers, integer rules, equations, inequalities, and expressions. Students will engage in methods for analyzing and solving proportional and angle relationships. The concepts of circles, including area and circumference, and the volume and surface area formulas for various three-dimensional figures will be included in the course curriculum. The Standards for Mathematical Processes apply throughout the course and together with the content standards prescribe that students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations.

Weeks 13-18 Expressions and Equations

Weeks 18-25 Geometry

Weeks 25-32 Probability and Statistics

Weeks 32-37 Review and Preview

 

Required Materials: To successfully complete this course, you will need to bring to class each day the following materials:

  • A “Can DO” positive attitude
  • Textbook
  • Interactive notes notebook
  • Binder (can be left in the classroom on the appropriate class shelf
  • Completed assignments on the assigned due date

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

General Rules:

  • Arrive on time and ready to learn.
  • Listen to and follow directions.
  • Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat.
  • Be respectful of your classmates, your teacher, and any materials.
  • Keep your hands, feet and all objects to yourself.

 

Consequences:

  • Verbal warning
  • Change in seating arrangement
  • Lunch detention
  • After school detention
  • Office referral

 

(In some cases, some or all of these steps may be skipped dependent upon the severity of the offense.)

 

Grading Policies:

  • Classroom Activities worth 30% of your grade:
  • Cooperating with classmates on practice activities
  • Participating in classroom discussions and activities
  • Completing and graded classroom activities and assignments
  • Homework worth 10% of your grade:
  • Homework will be given most days and is used to check your understanding of the concept
  • Quizzes/Projects worth 30% of your grade:
  • Quizzes are used to check for understanding and may or may not be announced
  • The number of projects per quarter will vary each quarter based on the units being covered
  • Tests/Exams worth 30% of your grade:
  • The number of tests and exams per quarter will vary based on the number of units completed

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Grading Scale:

A = 90-100

B = 80-89

C = 70-79

D = 60-69

F = Below 60

 

Late Work:

  • I expect all work to be turned in on time. Assignments are crucial pieces of practice and will move you towards mastery of the content.
  • If an assignment is late, points could be deducted at teacher discretion.

 

Absences:

  • When you return to school, you will be expected to take the following steps:
  • Turn in any assignments that are due to the class period inbox.
  • Ask for any notes from classmate or teacher.
  • Ask classmate or teacher for any assignments and instructions that you missed.
  • If you missed a test or classroom activity, you must schedule a time to make these up.
  • You must turn in completed assignments that were assigned during your absence within a timely manner.
