A Night with the Stars

National Children's Dental Health Month

National Children's Dental Health Month

National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM) is observed every February around the world, and is sponsored by the American Dental Association® (ADA) and their public oral hygiene resource – Mouth Healthy™. The impetus behind NCDHM is the goal of early adoption of proper oral hygiene techniques by our young people. Children, from infants to toddlers to teenagers, must be taught the importance of good oral health, and the techniques to achieve it. This helps ensure a solid base for them to build a lifetime of strong dental health on.

Unity Day

UNITY DAY: Together against bullying — united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Wednesday, October 19, 2016.

Make it ORANGE and make it end! What are your true colors when it comes to bullying? If you care about safe and supportive schools and communities make your color ORANGE on Unity Day. That’s the day everyone can come together – in schools, communities, and online – and send one large ORANGE message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are together against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

ORANGE provides a powerful, visually compelling expression of solidarity,” said Paula Goldberg, Executive Director of PACER Center. “When hundreds of individuals in a school or organization wear orange, the vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, sending the unified message to kids to know that they are not alone, and that our society supports bullying prevention in our schools, communities and online.”

Free Books for Summer Camp Students

Summer Camp Students Receive Free Books

KEES hosted a book fair for Summer Camp participants on Tuesday, June 14th. The best part about this book fair is that all books were FREE!!!! Students were allowed to choose three books of their choice. Then they moved on to decorate a paper bag to match one of the three books in their bag of books that they will take home to add to their home libraries. The bags that they decorated will be distributed to local businesses so that students' families can enjoy their work as they buy goods around town at the local merchants. Finally, students had their picture made with a book! Thanks to the Title I Mini-Grant, the Read to Succeed Grant, and a donation from St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Chapin, all students attending summer camp at KEES will take home free books each week. Students will receive a total of around 20 books on their reading levels to add to their home libraries!

Flu Clinic at Kelly Edwards Elementary

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is working with Williston School District #29 and the VaxCare Corporation to provide flu vaccines at your child's school.  Each  year many South Carolina children get sick with flu, and some of these children suffer serious complications.  Children with chronic health problems like asthma, diabetes, and nervous system disorders are at an especially high risk of developing serious complications from the flu.  The best way to protect your child from the flu is to get him or her vaccinated each year.

Our school will be hosting a Flu Vaccine Clinic on November, 13th.  This is a convenient way to get your child vaccinated against the flu without having to make an extra trip to the doctor.  Permission slips were recently sent home with the students.  Please complete the FRONT and BACK of the form and return it to school by October 30th.

Remember, vaccination is the best way to protect you and your family from the flu.  Please take advantage of this opportunity to get your child a flu vaccine at school so that you can both stay healthy and have fewer absences this flu season.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Nurse Tina Craig (KEES) or Nurse Susan Eichman (WEMS & WEHS).  You may also call DHEC directly at 803-898-3432 or visit www.scdhec.gov.

Their goal isn’t to certify that schools are good enough. Rather, their commitment is to help schools improve.

Limited Water at Kelly Edwards Elementary School Thursday, December 4, 2014

Wednesday afternoon we had a water leak in a kindergarten classroom.  In order to repair the leak, water was shut down in certain areas of the school.  We have relocated the classroom and students are able to have restroom facilities and we will be able to serve lunch.  We are working diligently to get the issue resolved and will keep parents updated.  If the situation is not resolved by this afternoon, we will notify parents of the plan for Friday, December 5, 2014. I want to thank our maintenance staff along with Kelly Edwards Elementary faculty and staff for being so flexible and accommodating - making sure our main focus of teaching children is able to continue.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.  We will post frequent updates to the school website and the school Facebook page.
