National Children's Dental Health Month

National Children's Dental Health Month

National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM) is observed every February around the world, and is sponsored by the American Dental Association® (ADA) and their public oral hygiene resource – Mouth Healthy™. The impetus behind NCDHM is the goal of early adoption of proper oral hygiene techniques by our young people. Children, from infants to toddlers to teenagers, must be taught the importance of good oral health, and the techniques to achieve it. This helps ensure a solid base for them to build a lifetime of strong dental health on.

Flu Vaccination for Students

Flu Shots to be Given to Students at WEMS

The South Carolina Department of Enviromental Control (DHEC) is working with Williston School District #29 and the Vaxcare Corporation to provide flu vaccines at your child's school.

Each year many South Carolina children get sick with the flu, and some of these children suffer serious complications.  Children with chronic health problems such as asthma, diabetes and nervous system disorders are at an especially high risk of developing serious complications from the flu.

The best way to protect your child from the flu is to get them immunized from the flu each year.

Our school will be hosting a flu vaccine clinic at the school on Friday, November 13th.This is a convenient way to get your child vaccinated from the flu without having to make an extra trip to the doctor.

Permission slips were recently sent home with the students.  Please complete the FRONT and BACK of the form and send it back to the school by Friday, Oct. 30th.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Nurse Craig (KEES) or Nurse Eichman (WEMS/WEHS).  You may also contact DHEC directly at 803-898-3432 or visit www.scdhec.gov.

School Bus Driver Appreciation Week

SCHOOL BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION WEEK

This years’ observance of School Bus Driver Appreciation Week is the week of May 5-9, 2014.

Driving a school bus is often unappreciated and overlooked; yet, without a doubt school bus drivers have one of the most difficult and demanding jobs in our educational system. There are not many jobs, not matter the occupation, where one moment of inattention, or one simple mistake, can place the safety of fifty to seventy children in jeopardy. . In our state we have over 5,600 school bus drivers. They transport more than 535,000 students to and from school each school day and travel over 73 million miles a year.

Thank a Bus Driver today!

Welcome Back to School

WEMS would like to welcome everyone back to school.  This year has already started with a reason to celebrate.  Our teachers and students earned an "A" with a 95.5 average on the Elementary and Secondary Education Act Federal Accountability System.  WEMS has so many reasons to be proud.  The main reason is our students.  They are the reason WEMS gets excited about "Back to School."  This year we will achieve even more reasons to celebrate.

Please take another look at our Arrival and Dismissal procedures.  They are different from last year.  We no longer drop off or pick up in front of the school.  If your student(s) arrive past 7:45, you must come to the office to sign them into school.  In the morning, the 6th grade will report to the cafeteria and 7th & 8th will report to the canteen.

During dismissal, Warren Street will be closed to thru traffic from 2:30-3:15.  All traffic will enter Warren Street from West Street.  WEMS will have two stacking lanes.  This effort is to keep our WEMS students safe. We look forward to a great year!

Middle school football practice begins Monday, August 19th.  You must have an athletic physical to practice.
